I recently had the time to check out the brand new season of the the famous TV series ,Brooklyn Nine Nine, now if you haven’t watched the new season yet ,I must warn you that there may be some spoilers here so you might not wanna stick around . But if you are brave enough to handle spoilers go ahead read it .

Now I’ve been a massive fan of the show ever since it started ,the idea of comedy and cops has always baffled me and the writers and actors have managed to keep up the hype . I consider myself a Brooklyn Nine Niner or a Nineiac (Like Cpt Holt is a Weichselbrauniac) . Now this review is not a typical TV series review where I talk about the lightning, script and acting and all of that stuff ,NOPE . It is not ,this is a Mental Health Review . Here me out , I believe that mainstream media affects our Psychology in many ways ,hence the topic of mental health should be addressed in every TV series ,not because mental health is a “fad” ,a novelty or a “social trend” for teenage girls to use to get attention in tiktok, but because depression has killed and infected more people than the damn Corona . So its everyone responsibility to address mental health problems in a positive way ,and damn it Brooklyn Nine Nine did it in their brand new season ,in a subtle Nine Nine way .

SPOILER ALERTS AHEAD !!!!

Be a HOLT , LET it out

Let’s talk facts . HOLT is SAD AF . He lost his beloved captain role and his emotions are everywhere ,now Holt is not the one who would get emotional because hes a Robot .So me telling you to be a Holt might seem redundant but here me out .In the Season 7 he’s throwing emotions like away a “fire hose” in his own Holty way .and I love it .

He eventually becomes the caption of the Nine Nine but till then you could clearly see hes having a constant of mental breakdowns .The takeaway from this is ,if something is upsetting you ,make sure to let it out ,there is no shame of crying out for help from your loved ones. and You could clearly see the support he gets from his companions or should I say fellow comrades . So dont be a Robot ,dont conceal your emotions inside ,if you are upset . Just let it out .

Jake has more issues than his typical Daddy Issues

In the second episode the Nine Nine gets a new caption , Cpt Julie Kim and for some weird reason Jake seems to be super suspicious about her .I mean considering the fact that Nine Nine had bad wave of captains ,including the VULTURE !! its excusable .However Julie Kim is an amazing human being ,but Jake have major trust issues about her . and his trust issues had nothing to do with the Nine Nine or Julie ,but with his past . In this episode he mentions that he had a series of Step Dads ,and that all the people his mother dated after the divorcing his dad were just as bad as Captain Peralta and that they (two of them apparently ) cheated on his mom just like his actual dad .

Over the course of my Psych degree we would learn about Dysfunctional family dynamics from time to time and how that affects children more than adults and most importantly its gonna create a long lasting impression on the child’s life and will affect his adulthood. .Clearly Jake needs to work through his issues ,but to me it seems like there will be a dedicated episode just on that . and I wanna see him finally getting over his daddy issues and step daddy issues . FINGERS CROSSED

Clear communication

Being a cop does take a lot out from you ,and you pay a huge price mentally ,so there can be bottled up emotions . and in the third episode (Adrian Pimento is coming back with a new twist) the squad ,except Jake and Charles (They are busy investigating “something” with Pimento) talks their problems out in a group therapy session manner ,its a focus group for police pals .In this particular scene everyone’s talking about the things they hate about each other and it kinda let out some steam. They initially hated the conflict resolution seminar but they did seem a little revealed it happened . May be I’m way over my head in this one but I think the writers wanted to showcase the importance of communication in a Nine Nine passion . The takeaway from this is ,when you spend so much time with someone, there could be things that you might not like about that person ,it works both ways ,so don’t bottle up your feelings ,be honest . Honesty can create long lasting relationships .

The Halloween Heist !!

who loves the heist episodes ? I’m a huge fan of the Halloween Heists ,It brings out the best and worse in all of the characters and it helps me connect with them on a human level . This time they did the heist in a different way . Usually these heists involves having partners ,this time Jake comes up with the idea of handcuffing each other so that they wouldn't betray their partner . If you guys remember ,the last heist included some harsh betraying ,Rosa shipping Charles to nowhere ,Amy and Jake tasing each other and etc. So according to Jake even though the true meaning of heists was to bring each other closer ,the past heists created an opposite effect .So this time the partners were handcuffed and that if they break the handcuffs the said pair would be disqualified .

In conclusion while the show addresses contemporary issues such as gender equality ,racism ,homosexuality its shift towards addressing mental illness is increasing .Which is a good thing ,because lot of teens are attracted towards the show , I believe something that’s as influential as Brooklyn Nine Nine it can create a huge impact on its viewers. Specially on its younger audience .
